Many of us like to think that we do our bit for the environment and yet often we fall at the first hurdle either through ignorance, laziness or the quest to cut costs. The same is true when we are doing up our house or choosing new furniture or decoration.
Our priorities often lie in the wrong direction as we choose items which we have fallen in love with for their looks or which are in the sale without thinking about whether they are environmentally friendly or taken from sustainable sources.
Yet with a little thought it is possible to buy really stylish items without breaking the bank, such as eco wood window dressings – a good example as there is a clear distinction between shutters which are eco friendly and which are not.
In a nutshell, eco friendly shutters are those which have been taken from a sustainable source, that is, forests which are managed properly and replanted so that they will still be around and producing wood in centuries to come. These are easy to spot as they have the Forest Stewardship Council mark, a sure sign that they have been produced responsibly.
I can think of nothing better than to invest in some environmentally friendly shutters which you know have been taken from a source which is being responsibly managed.
